FFVT on point: ‘Scientific perspectives on 10 years of “We can do it!”’
September 1, 2025, 12:30 PM - 1:45 PM
The ‘long summer of migration’ is marking its tenth anniversary. Angela Merkel's widely quoted statement ‘We can do it,’ which she made (for the first time) at the Federal Press Conference on 31 August 2015, became a leitmotif of integration policy and the associated social debate on the reception and integration of refugees. In the context of migration and displacement, integration is often understood as a reciprocal process between immigrants and the host society. The cross-cutting task of ‘integration’ affects a variety of policy areas and levels of government; it requires a coherent approach on the part of decision-makers and actors at all levels concerned. As part of our online format ‘FFVT on point’, researchers from different perspectives shed light on developments in integration processes over the past 10 years: What has been achieved? And what has not? What obstacles to integration remain? Where is there still a need for action? What new challenges have arisen?
